Toastmasters Club

We are a community club that is open to all interested.

We pride our club on being welcoming, supportive, well-run, and diverse. Our club includes an array of new and experienced toastmasters; many are native to Indianapolis and many have origins that span the globe.

Guests are always welcome at our meetings. Speaking is never a requirement for visitors, though it is certainly never discouraged. We hope to see you there!

Nora Toastmasters was founded February 1st, 1953 as a local Indianapolis chapter of Toastmasters International. The first group of toastmasters was assembled in 1924 by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley. Their purpose was to form a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.”

Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Nora Toastmasters includes new members as well as some of the most experienced and decorated toastmasters in the state.

Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.

At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A Nora Toastmasters club meeting consists of about 20 members who meet once a week for 90 minutes. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
